Tenor sax player Andy Nicholls and pianist and vocalist Chris Conway continue to play on the first Wednesday of the month and August 7th marks their quarter century playing at the popular restaurant.
Andy says, “We could never have imagined when we started that we'd be playing here so long. We have built good friendships with our regular listeners over the years, and sometimes have played at parties for them.” Andy goes back even further as he started playing at the Cactus Cafe 2 years before with a guitarist before the duo with Chris began.
Has their music changed over the years? Chris replies, “Latin music suits the vibe of the Cactus Cafe so we play more of that now than when we started. It's great to play where the music just feels right for the space – we're not too loud but it adds a unique atmosphere to the place.” Chris even wrote and recorded a track called Cactus Cafe on one of his albums.
So if you fancy some spicey food and some cool jazz, head on down to The Cactus Cafe on the corner on High Street on the 1st Wednesday of the month.
