It's after secured funding for the project.

A tennis and netball court in Bedworth is to get improvements.

It's after Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council with Bedworth Sports Club got a pot of more than 170 thousand pounds to resurface the Miners Welfare park courts.

A further funding application is being submitted to Sport England to help with the project.

There's currently an issue with tree foliage and root growth compromising the safety of the courts and making the surface slippery. The trees causing the issues will need to be removed.

The Council will be working with their Parks Team to ensure that an equal number of trees will be replanted in a different area of the park so that there is no overall loss.

The removal of the trees will make the court surface safe.

Chairman of the Bedworth Sports Club Ivor Richards said:

“Bedworth Sports Club have been working in partnership with NBBC for a number of years now. The partnership started when Bedworth Cricket Club wanted to develop their Pavilion. We now have a facility that the town can be proud of. It was the vision of our committee to be more inclusive to our community and other sports, hence the Sports Club being formed.

“This latest development is a direct result of BSC, NBBC and Warwickshire County Council and officers from both authorities working alongside each other. The return of competitive netball to MWP would be extremely good news and we at BSC look forward to welcoming them”.

Cllr Ian Lloyd, Cabinet Member for Arts & Leisure said:

“Yet again partnership working has enabled further improvements for our local residents. The partnership with Bedworth Sports Club and Warwickshire County Council has grown in strength and will help provide the very best sporting facilities for our residents in our Miners Welfare Destination Park facility. This work supports our on-going concept planning of the park over coming years, providing new and exciting facilities”.

Warwickshire County Councillor Richard Chattaway, ward member for Bedworth Central, said:

“I am really pleased to have been part of this work with Bedworth Sport Club and helping them achieve a vision for improving leisure facilities around the MWP. It will be great to see this work completed over the coming months and provide further opportunities for local people to take part in physical activity”.
