A man in his 80's who had coronavirus has died at Leicester Royal Infirmary.

In a statement the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust said:

“Sadly, we can confirm that a man who was being cared for at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, and had tested positive for COVID-19, has died.

The patient, who died on Thursday 12 March, was in his 80s. It was later confirmed he had tested positive for COVID-19.

His family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.

Leicester’s Hospitals are continuing to follow all of the appropriate infection control guidance to provide safe and effective care to our patients.

Patients with appointments should still attend as normal unless they have a new and continuous cough or a temperature in which case they should contact the telephone number on their appointment letter for further advice.”

The announcement came after Public Health England confirmed 10 more deaths linked to Coronvirus with 1,140 cases now confirmed in the UK.

They were being cared for by nine trusts including Buckinghamshire, Sandwell & West Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Leicester, Barts, London, north Middlesex and Chester.
