Frank Parker Butchers in Nuneaton have been commended for their swift action to close the store after staff members tested positive for COVID-19.

The butchers closed voluntarily on Tuesday 10th November, following the news that members of their staff had tested positive for COVID-19.

Public Health Warwickshire said the butchers took immediate action by closing the store and informing their customers via Facebook.

They then organised for the rest of their team to be tested as a precautionary measure and organised a deep clean of their premises.

The Environmental Health Team at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, along with Public Health Warwickshire have been in contact with the business over the last few days to provide essential advice, guidance and support.

The business is due to re-open on the 13 November following the deep clean.

Warwickshire County Council Assistant Director of Public Health, Emily van de Venter said: “We are really impressed at the way in which Frank Parker Butchers have responded to the confirmed cases. They voluntarily closed for a deep clean and acted quickly to get all their staff tested to help to reduce the spread of the virus and avoid potential risks to customers. It’s a difficult time for all small businesses at the moment, but the butchers have taken complete responsibility, not only for their staff members, but also for their customers and the community as a whole and for that I commend them. This really is a clear demonstration of businesses doing the right thing for Warwickshire."

Talking about the decision to close, Owners of Frank Parker Butchers, Hannah and Ben said: “It has been a difficult few days but our priority has to be for the safety of our employees and customers. We want to reassure our customers that we are following all the advice given by the Environmental Health Team and Public Health and intend to re-open for business with a reduction in capacity on the 13 November, following a deep clean of the premises. “We would to thank Public Health Warwickshire and the Environmental Health Team for all of their support and are grateful to all of the customers who have supported us over the last few days. It is very much appreciated.”

Anyone feeling unwell or concerned they have coronavirus should self-isolate at home and book a test.
