Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council say they've started to distribute discretionary grant funding to support small businesses through the coronavirus pandemic.

The Borough Council says they've made payments to the first 35 small businesses in Nuneaton and Bedworth - totalling £191,000

They launched the scheme for companies that have previously been unable to claim government financial support on 11th June utilising funding received from the Government.

They say they received 145 applications from small firms in the borough.

Work continues to gather further information and to see if help can be given to the remaining applicants.

Councillor Julie Jackson, Leader of the Council said: "Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has always prioritised our business community.  I am very pleased to be able to offer some level of financial support to our small businesses who, along with companies up and down the country, are experiencing great challenges during these unprecedented times.  I hope that the payments, totalling £191,000 , that we have made, will provide some relief.  We will continue to offer as much support as possible and continue to work with our partners at the CWLEP Growth Hub and the Federation of Small Businesses to ensure that the help and advice needed by businesses is available to them."
