8542 painted stones were placed in Hinckley's Argents Mead in memory of Isla Tansey on Saturday.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council were part of the official count which will now be sent to Guiness World Records for confirmation.

The previous record was 3646.

Isla's parents Simon and Katherine Tansey thanked everyone for helping to make their daughter's wish come true and helping to get her into the record books.

Seven year old Isla Tansey died in July 2018 after losing her battle with a spinal tumour.

She started the #islastones campaign encouraging people around the world to paint and hide stones, posting pictures of them online for her to see to raise awareness of childhood cancers.

Her followers are now hoping to raise money for an 'Isla Smiler' DIPG Trial's Researcher to help detect rare cancers.

People are being encouraged to now take the 8500 stones away with them from Hinckley's Argent's Mead and take them away and re-hide them through the school summer holidays.
