Two people taken to hospital following crash on the A6 in Birstall

Police were called to the two vehicle collision on the A6 Loughborough Road just after 5.30pm yesterday.

In a statement Leicestershire police said: "Officers were called to a collision on the A6 Loughborough Road at 5.34pm yesterday (Monday 28th September). 

The collision involved two vehicles.

Fire and ambulance were also in attendance.

Two people were taken to the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham. One person sustained minor injuries and the other was initially thought to have sustained serious injuries, his injuries have now been confirmed as not being life threatening.

Red Hill Circle was closed county bound while officers dealt with the incident and was reopened around 10.40pm."

Leicestershire police had initially released a statement saying a man had been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving, but have now released a further statement saying: "Further enquiries have been conducted with those officers who dealt with the collision in Birstall yesterday evening and it has now been confirmed that no one was arrested during the incident.  

A man was tested at the scene and provided a negative breath test.  A number of resources were in attendance and there was some miscommunication between officers.  We apologise for any distress this may have caused."
