Bosworth festival promises medieval fun

Preparations are well underway for this year’s Bosworth Medieval Festival.

The family-friendly festival, which takes place on Saturday, 17 and Sunday, 18 August at the county council's Battlefield Heritage Centre, will see new attractions such as period falconry displays, medieval cooking demonstrations and food tasting, a roving Jester and a medieval puppet show.

As well as two battle re-enactments on each day – including a 20-minute re-creation of the Battle of Bosworth on both afternoons featuring hundreds of re-enactors - there will be large living history encampments in which visitors can explore the art of jousting and archery.

There will also be cannon fire demonstrations, guided tours, author talks, a medieval craft market and hands-on games and competitions for children, as well as entry to the award-winning exhibition and free car parking.

Richard Blunt, county council cabinet member for heritage, leisure and arts, said: “The Medieval Festival is a great event with lots of activities for all the family and one of the highlights of the summer.

"This year, we're delighted to be able to offer even more for families and people of all ages to enjoy. If you’ve visited the festival before, you will see so much more this year. If you’ve never visited, please come and join us."

Tickets will be valid for the whole weekend, which means that visitors can attend the Bosworth Medieval Festival, which runs from 10am to 5.30pm, on either or both days, for no extra cost.

Once through the gates, all events during the two days, except talks in the Heritage Room and have-a-go archery, are free of charge.

Tickets can be booked online at www.bosworthbattlefield.org.uk or by calling 01455 290429 between 10am and 5pm.

They can also be bought in person from Bosworth Battlefield. Family tickets and special group rates are also available. Tickets will also be available on the gate on both days of the festival.
