Apollo Business Park taking shape

Work on a £5.5m new business park is taking shape in Coalville and remains on course to be completed in August.

Apollo Business Park is being developed by us and is to create more than 120 jobs while boosting business in the town by supporting start-ups and firms looking to expand. 

So far, construction company Willmott Dixon has built the steel frames for all of the units at the park based on Vulcan Way.

The venture is part-funded by £2.4m from the Local Growth Fund allocated by the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) and will offer a range of high-spec industrial units to let ranging from 1,000 to 9,000 sq. ft. (92- 836 sq. m.)

Stuart Kerr, director at Willmott Dixon, said: “We are pleased to be working with Leicestershire County Council on the Apollo Business Park project, which is set to revitalise business in the region by supporting smaller businesses. At Willmott Dixon, we have a purpose beyond profit and that includes being passionate about leaving a lasting positive legacy, something that Apollo Business Park will provide for many decades to come.

“Over the duration of the Apollo Business Park project, we committed to investing 12 per cent back into the local community, equating to a monetary value of £668k. As part of this, we have worked with local schools and colleges and on community projects. To date we’ve also ensured that 82 per cent of local spend and 88 per cent of local labour has been within a 40 mile radius of the site.”

The scheme is part of the LLEP’s strategic economic plan which aims to create 45,000 extra jobs, reduce unemployment by 50 per cent, support 15,000 businesses to expand and help 1,000 start-ups – Coalville is earmarked as a priority area. 

Kevin Harris, chair of the LLEP, said: “There is a strong business demand for developments like Apollo Business Park and as a Local Enterprise Partnership we support and fund projects that have a positive economic impact for the local area, its businesses and people.

“We are looking forward to seeing the development completed later this year when it will provide new workspace for start-ups and growing businesses in need of more space to expand.”
