Loughborough gets gold for a seventh time in the annual awards for local flower displays.

Loughborough was awarded Gold at the East Midlands in Bloom awards.

The town also won the Best Small City category, after scoring almost 10 points more than its competitors.

This is the seventh time that Loughborough has won Gold since it began competing in the competition in 2009.

Andy Rush, Loughborough in Bloom chair, said: “It’s another fantastic achievement., thanks to everyone’s great work.

“I think everybody in the town will agree that Loughborough has looked great this year and even better with the addition of new hanging baskets and the extra planters that are on the road sides.”

Councillor Hilary Fryer, Charnwood Borough Council’s Cabinet member for Open Spaces and Leisure Services, said: “It’s fantastic that Loughborough has once again won gold and it’s a testament to the hard work of all our partners, volunteers and officers.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has been involved this year. This is a wonderful achievement for our town.”

This year the theme for the campaign was ‘Greening Grey Britain for Wildlife” and saw community groups create a number of bug boxes around the town, to encourage wildlife.

The Loughborough in Bloom effort was supported by community groups, residents, businesses and organisations from across Loughborough.
