Charnwood Borough Council is supporting the community effort to help residents in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Council, working with John Storer Charnwood, has launched Charnwood Community Action – a campaign to help support, advise, guide and co-ordinate groups and people who are volunteering to help others in the borough.

As part of the campaign, the Council is keen to support the community during this difficult time and has pledged £100,000 to help with any needs identified as part of this co-ordinated approach.

Cllr Deborah Taylor, lead member for communities, said: “The government has had to introduce some very difficult measures to tackle the pandemic and it is clear that it is going to cause problems for some people in our communities, particularly those who may not have much of a support network.

“We have launched this campaign to provide additional support to those groups and organisations who are helping those most vulnerable in our community during this time.

“I have been really pleased to see so many people organising themselves to help others in these pretty difficult circumstances. We have already seen Facebook groups being set up in the area and we commend that community spirit.

“The Council is committed to helping residents and if we can support that community effort with advice and guidance or funding then we will certainly do that.”

Volunteers and voluntary groups already helping other people are encouraged to register with John Storer which can provide specific advice and guidance needed to ensure everyone’s safety.

Funding for the £100,000 community support fund has been allocated from the Council’s reserves.
