Witnesses described Wileman as driving erratically and swerving his vehicle.

A driver who drove deliberately at a pedestrian in the middle of a town and then fled the scene has been convicted.

During the evening of Saturday 4 July, 2020, Nathan Wileman was out drinking in a pub in the High Street, Measham

A man, who had also been in the premises, left the pub and shortly afterwards he saw 34-year-old Wileman driving towards him in his white Transit pickup van.  The van hit him and he sustained serious injuries to his foot.

Wileman, of Wash Lane, Ravenstone, Coalville failed to stop at the scene and drove off along the High Street.

Witnesses described Wileman as driving erratically and swerving his vehicle.

At a previous hearing, Wileman (pictured) pleaded guilty to Section 18 Grievous Bodily Harm and dangerous driving.

On Friday (16 February) at Leicester Crown Court Wileman was sentenced to four years and four months in prison.  He was also disqualified from driving for four years and two months, which will begin upon his release from prison.

Detective Constable Berni Smith was the investigating officer, she said: “We are pleased Wileman admitted his involvement at a previous hearing.

“Wileman deliberately drove at the victim, not just once but twice, with the aim of causing some serious harm, it was pure luck that the victim didn’t sustain any life changing injuries.

“He failed to stop at the scene and up until now has shown no remorse for his actions.  Unfortunately the legal process has taken some time to complete but we hope following this conviction the victim can move on with his life and put the incident behind him.”
