Critical services remain a focus.

Prioritising critical services for vulnerable people remains our focus, says Leicestershire County Council’s leader.

The Prime Minister announced that schools will close for most pupils from Friday afternoon. They will continue to be open for children of key workers and vulnerable young people.

Nick Rushton, Leader of Leicestershire County Council said:

"Government advice is shifting. And clearly, this latest announcement will impact on the council’s critical services – including support for children and adults, as well as everyone who lives and works in Leicestershire.

“You will no doubt be concerned. I want to reassure residents that we are urgently working through the impact of school closures and other measures, although we are to some extent dependent on government advice. Our critical services remain our focus. We’re exploring a number of options, including asking staff to quickly move into other roles so that we can continue to deliver the support people depend on.

“This is a challenging situation. We’re doing everything we can and it remains vital that residents follow Government advice as it is clarified. We all need to play our part to stop the spread of coronavirus and save lives."
