People have until midnight on Sunday to share their views on school term and holiday dates for the next 5 academic years.

Both Leicestershire County Council and Leicester City Council are offering people the opportunity to choose from a number of options, including sticking to regular patterns. Both consultations have been aligned and both contain options reflecting the same dates.

The authorities are also asking for views on whether the term patterns followed by the city and county should match.

Councillor Deborah Taylor, Leicestershire County Council cabinet member for children and families, said: “This is a great opportunity to let us know your views and tell us what would work best for you and your family.

“The aim is to make sure we have dates in place that work in the best way possible for young people and their families who live in and / or attend school in the local area

“All the feedback we get is really valuable and will help us see if we need to maintain current arrangements or align term times differently.”

Councillor Elly Cutkelvin, assistant city mayor for education, said: “We know that lots of people will have a view on how holidays and term times should be set for schools in Leicester, and we’re keen to hear those views, so we’re encouraging people to make sure they have their say before the deadline.

“We’ve worked with county to run our consultations at the same time, because we know many families in Leicester have links with schools in both the city and the county, and will want to have their say on both.

“This is a really important issue for families across the city and county and we want to hear your views. The dates we set now will be in place until the end of the 2026/27 academic year. This will provide certainty to families and school staff so that they can plan effectively.”
