It happened at The Kelso nightclub in Ward's End between 2.20am and 2.30am on Wednesday 1 March.

The victim, a 21-year-old woman, was attacked with a glass object, leaving her with a permanent scar on her face.

A 20-year-old woman from Loughborough was arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released under investigation.

Detective Constable Chris Richards, the investigating officer, said: “This was a busy student event where lots of people were present.

“I’m in no doubt that there will have been people in the nightclub who saw what happened. This attack has had a significant psychological impact on the victim.

“This was a serious and unprovoked assault which has left a young girl with permanent scarring. Somebody within the student community knows who did this and it is important that they come forward.
