Local businesses voice new ad campaign

Shop owners in Charnwood and Loughborough have voiced a new radio advertising campaign to encourage people to shop local this Christmas.

The advertising campaign, stars several local traders who were asked by Charnwood Borough Council and the Loughborough BID, Love Loughborough to take part. 

It's part of the "Shop Safe, Shop Local" campaign launched by the Borough Council and the Business Improvement District to promote local traders in the run up to Christmas, following a second coronavirus lockdown in England. 

The stars of the advert include:

Georgie from DK Designs, Anstey

Lucy Percy from Birstall Pet Supplies

Jag Chohan from JC’s Late Shop

Rebecca Garratt from Slider Town

Lisa Brown, Love Loughborough BID Manager said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for customers to support our local businesses whilst also staying safe. Instead of defaulting to Amazon for your Christmas purchases – check out shop.loveloughborough.co.uk and explore the wide range of gifts and experiences on offer. We are launching with a dozen or so ‘shop’s but we already have over 30 signed up who are busy creating their shops and uploading their products”.

Cllr Shona Rattray, the Council’s lead member for business support, said: “The retail sector has been hit hard by the pandemic so this is a good opportunity for people to offer their support by getting Christmas gifts and goods from local shops if they can. Charnwood has some fantastic high streets, but they need your support, now more than ever. Before you buy online please consider whether you can get what you need from a local shop either online or in the high street."

“Retailers have worked hard to make their shops Covid-secure and shoppers can help stay self by following the rules of hands, face, space.”
