Operation to target criminals sees 10 arrested

An operation targeting criminals committing crimes across parts of Leicestershire has seen the arrest of 10 people earlier this month.

The dedicated operation - codenamed Operation Wham - was started to target criminals who are known to travel and operate between the West Leicester and Charnwood area. It has been in action this month to disrupt this activity and arrest those we are suspected of committing crime through the major routes between these areas.

The 10 people arrested have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Inspector Rob Randell, commander for West Leicester Neighbourhood Policing Area said: “This operation has demonstrated the benefits and positive results of team working within the force with a number of departments involved including the local policing area, EMOpPS and neighbourhood investigation teams.

“It is operations such as this that gives reassurance to our communities that the police are dealing with this type of threat and are prepared to work together as a team to produce these results.”

Inspector Dwight Baker, commander for Charnwood Neighbourhood Policing Area added: “I can only echo Inspector Randall’s comments and endorse the commitment and hard work that our officers and staff have given to this operation and will continue to do so in future operations.

“While the work we have done has been a success we always need help from the public. If you have information about criminal activity in your area please get in touch so we can act upon it and tackle those issues we know cause communities the most harm and concern.”

So far since May 2018, Operation Wham has run on four separate occasions over six nights where a total of 36 people have been arrested on suspicion of offences such drug possession, burglary and driving offences.
