A year group at The Nuneaton Academy in Radnor Drive was sent home when they arrived yesterday morning after a pupil tested positive for coronavirus.

A statement from the Midland Academies Trust said: “We have been notified this morning (Tuesday 15th September) that one of our Year 8 students based at The Nuneaton Academy has tested positive for Covid-19 and is now self-isolating at home. The student has not been present in school since Thursday,10 September.

“Fellow students and college staff have been notified and, in accordance with guidelines from Public Health England, the entire Year 8 cohort has been sent home this morning upon their arrival at school. School facilities are currently subject to a deep cleaning process. “

Simon Lomax, Executive Principal for the Midland Academies Trust said, “Our first thoughts are with the student and any family members affected and we hope they will make a speedy recovery. Our duty of care to students and staff is paramount and we are reassured by the fact that we have followed government guidance to the letter throughout this process. This action has minimised the risk to other students and staff at The Nuneaton Academy.”

“It is also our priority to preserve the confidentiality of the student involved, and we will not be discussing further details regarding this particular case.”
