Police searches are taking place following the death of a man in Mountsorrel.

Police were called by East Midlands Ambulance Service at 10.47am on Friday (22 May) to a flat in Chestnut Court.

A man, who was inside the property, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers attended the property and the death of the man was initially treated as unexplained.

Following a post-mortem examination, it is believed the man was assaulted prior to his death and a murder investigation was launched.

Two men, both of Loughborough, were arrested on Friday on suspicion of murder.

A 41-year-old remains in custody where he is being questioned by detectives while the other man, 39, has been released under investigation.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Kenny Henry said: “Our investigation to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing.

“As part of our enquiries so far officers have been out and about locally speaking to people and checking for CCTV opportunities as well as offering reassurance to the community.

“Today (Monday) officers will be in the area carrying out searches.

“I am grateful to the public for the assistance they have given so far and I continue to appeal to anyone who has any information to make contact with us.

“If you were in the area of Chestnut Court between Thursday and Friday morning and heard or saw anything suspicious we want to hear from you. If you have information and have not yet spoken to us please get in touch.”
