Two men who stole a bus and then live streamed their actions on social media have pleaded guilty to their part in the incident.

James Jones, 27, of Armadale Drive, Leicester, and Johnathan Huckerby, 28, of Pevensey Road, Loughborough, appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Thursday 3 January).

Jones pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without consent and driving without insurance. He was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment.

Huckerby pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without consent and possession of a class B drug. He was sentenced to 12 weeks imprisonment.

Both men were ordered to pay £115 in victim compensation and costs of £85 pounds.

The incident took place on Monday 3 December last year in Charnwood Road, Shepshed, when the defendants stole a Skylink bus while the driver was on a break. They then live streamed their crime on Facebook and subsequently left the bus nearby in Leicester Road.

Officers were called to the incident and arrested Jones and Huckerby shortly afterwards after identifying them through the online footage.

PC Jack Chester was the investigating officer, he said: “Jones and Huckerby’s actions that evening were reckless and could have resulted in far worse consequences. I am pleased they’ve admitted their part in the incident and I hope this dissuade them from committing such an offence in the future.
