What to do with your real Christmas Tree

Taking your decorations down? Here's how you can recycle your real christmas tree.

Depending on where you live, the rules on Christmas Tree recycling vary. 

We've compiled a helpful list of our local councils and what you need to do with your real Christmas tree to dispose of it in the best way. 

CHARNWOOD BOROUGH COUNCIL

If you subscribe to the garden waste service, you can leave you tree (as long as it's less than 5ft tall) next to your garden waste bin and it will be collected. If your tree is larger, you will need to cut it in half.

Alternatively you can take your tree to the local tip. The three tip sites in Charnwood are at:

HINCKLEY & BOSWORTH BOROUGH COUNCIL

If you subscribe to the garden waste service, you can leave you tree (as long as it's cut to one metre in length) next to your garden waste bin and it will be collected. If your tree is larger, you will need to cut it up and put it in your garden bin. 

Alternatively you can take your tree to the local tip. You can book an appointment via the Leicestershire County Council website.

MARKET BOSWORTH YOUNG FARMERS

Market Bosworth Young Farmers are offering to collect real Christmas Trees in Hinckley, Burbage, Stoke Golding, Earl Shitlon, Sapcote, Newbold Verdon, Desford and surrounding areas for £5 with donations going to Parkinsons UK and Market Bosworth Young Farmers. 

BLABY DISTRICT COUNCIL 

If you live in Blaby district, the council will collect your Christmas tree for recycling on your first garden waste collection day in January - if you have a paid garden waste subscription. If you subscribe to the garden waste service, you can leave you tree (as long as it's cut to one metre in length) next to your garden waste bin and it will be collected.

Alternatively, you can drop off your tree at one of the sites listed below.  Christmas trees can be dropped off from 24 December up to 8 January 2021:-

  • Countesthorpe - Co-op Supemarket Car Park (LE8 5QX)
  • Enderby - Enderby Leisure Centre Car Park (LE19 4LX)
  • Glenfield - Stamford Street Car Park (LE3 8DL)
  • Huncote - Huncote Leisure Centre Car Park (LE9 3BN)
  • Narborough - Narborough Park Car Park (LE19 2EL)

Alternatively you can take your tree to the local tip. You can book an appointment via the Leicestershire County Council website.

NORTH WEST LEICESTERSHIRE DISTRICT COUNCIL

The council will collect your real Christmas tree so it can be turned into compost! Just pop it inside your garden bin (not next to it). The bid lid should fully close so trees may need to be trimmed/cut in order to fit.

You can also take real Christmas trees to one of Leicestershire County Council’s Recycling and Household Waste Sites.

NUNEATON & BEDWORTH BOROUGH COUNCIL

Cut your tree up into small pieces and put them in the green bin.

Alternatively, you can take Christmas trees to some local garden centres or to Judkins Household Waste Recycling Centre.
