Amanda Serrano seeks historic knockout of Lucrecia Manzur in final act of illustrious boxing career

Amanda Serrano has set her sights on securing one final piece of history before bringing the curtain down on her illustrious boxing career.

The reigning unified featherweight world champion faces Argentina's Lucrecia Manzur on August 21 in California, looking to secure her 50th professional victory.

Serrano can also set a new all-time women's boxing knockout record if she halts Manzur inside the distance for the 33rd stoppage of her career.

And Serrano says pulling clear of Christy Martin, with whom she currently shares the record of 32 KOs, would leave nothing more for her to achieve in the sport.

"This is definitely my last goal," Serrano, the seven-weight world champion, told Sky Sports.

"That's what gets me up in the morning, these little goals. It motivates me. This is the last one, breaking the record, the 50th win, my last farewell one, and that's it.

"I believe I have accomplished everything I wanted to when I decided to take on boxing."

Manzur coming to 'beat my head off'

Serrano is one of women's boxing's most decorated stars and represents a prized scalp for up-and-coming fighters.

The Puerto Rican is prepared for Manzur to attempt to "beat her head off" but is confident she has the skills to deliver a historic viral moment fitting of the fight's airing on TikTok.

"This is a special fight for me, especially being on TikTok, where it can be a viral moment," Serrano added. "I guarantee the 50th win is coming, but we're working on the 33rd knockout.

"Manzur is a very tough fighter. She's a Latina like me, she's Argentinian, she's going to come forward.

"The difference now with these girls, this new generation, is that they come in different. They come in to make a name for themselves in this sport.

"I know she's going to try to come and beat my head off, but she's never fought someone like me. We've been working really hard for the knockout, and I believe it can come."

Could Serrano return to the cage?

The Manzur fight might spell the end of Serrano's boxing career, but perhaps not the end of her involvement in combat sports, with the 37-year-old open to building on her three-fight MMA career.

"Well, I am undefeated in MMA," Serrano said. "I'm 2-0-1, with two submissions.

"I love the knockouts, but I think I love submissions a lot more. It's a lot more fun to get a submission than a knockout.

"Who knows? With the right fight, the right timing, the right network, maybe I'll throw some bows again.

"There's a couple of good girls, but I don't want to get ahead of myself. I haven't done MMA in a couple of years, but it would be an honour to go in there with the best, just to showcase my skills.

"I've learned a lot throughout the years in MMA. I'm not perfect yet, but I have these hands with four-ounce gloves."
