Amy Hunt follows European Championships heroics with 200m silver in Diamond League

Amy Hunt followed up her historic European Championships performance by finishing second in the 200 metres at the Lausanne Diamond League.

Less than a week after completing her set of four gold medals in Birmingham, the sprinter was on the starting blocks in Switzerland and she edged out Nigerian Favour Ofili in a photo finish.

Hunt's time of 22.32sec was some way off American winner Kayla White's 22.18, while two-time world champion Shericka Jackson failed to finish after suffering a leg injury.

Zharnel Hughes finished fifth in the equivalent men's race, which was won by Botswana's Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo, while Elise Thorner was eighth in the women's 3,000m steeplechase.

The most popular winner of the night, meanwhile, was home favourite Audrey Werro, who, just a week after beating Britain's Keely Hodgkinson to European 800m gold, triumphed again.

Werro pipped Dutchwoman Femke Bol, while the former 400m hurdler continued her rapid rise by setting a new national record of 1:55.41.

"The turnaround after the European Championships was very short, so I had to recover quickly, and I felt more tired than ​usual today," Werro said. "Despite that, I managed to win, so I'm very happy."

Olympic champion Masai Russell of the ⁠US led from the first barrier to win the women's 100m hurdles ​in 12.27 for her ninth consecutive victory this season.

"It was another win, so it keeps the streak alive, and ​I'm very pleased," Russell said. "I hadn't raced in a month, so I was really happy to see that my performance was right where I left it."
