Barcelona to remain on F1 calendar until 2032 in rotation with Belgian Grand Prix despite addition of Madrid race

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until 2032 after a deal was agreed for the event to feature in a yearly rotation with the Belgian Grand Prix.

Barcelona was entering the final year of its previous contract to host F1, and the addition of a race in Spanish capital Madrid for 2026 led many to believe the circuit would not be retained.

However it was confirmed on Monday that Barcelona will feature on the calendar in 2028, 2030 and 2032 alongside the Madrid street race, which is slated as a permanent fixture on the schedule until 2035.

The Barcelona race will rotate with the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, which had last year been confirmed as a host for 2027, 2029 and 2031, along with this season.

The Barcelona event has been renamed the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, having lost its previous Spanish Grand Prix title to the Madrid race.

When confirming the new deal, Formula 1 cited the construction of the circuit rooftop, a new hospitality space, and the installation of solar panels throughout the circuit as factors in the agreement of an extension.

Formula 1 president Stefano Domenicali said: "Barcelona is an incredible city, and the Formula 1 fans there always welcome us with such passion, so I am delighted that we will continue to race at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for years to come.

"The team have invested heavily in the circuit and hosted fantastic fan festivals in recent years, so we look forward to seeing how they continue to develop the experience, both for attendees at the race and for the city as a whole."

The 24-race 2026 schedule begins with the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne from March 6-8, with every session of every race live on Sky Sports F1.

The 2026 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix, the first taking place under that title, is schedule for June 12-14. The first race in Madrid is set to take place from September 11-13.
