Bradgate Park is provides 830 acres of publicly accessible countryside close to Leicester City Centre, and the landscape is steeped in historic and natural significance. The landscape is home to herds of red and fallow deer, some of the oldest in-situ fossils in the UK, the ruins of one of the most important country houses of Tudor England, and many species of wildlife. The Bradgate Park Trust is a charitable trust, created to care for the estate.

On 2nd June, a we’ll be kicking off the long bank holiday weekend in style with “street party” style celebrations, the unveiling of a brand new piece of public art, and, in the evening, the lighting of the Old John beacon – all in celebration of Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The event will begin with the launch of our new public artwork, created in collaboration with our visitors and looking back at the last 70 years of visiting and making memories at Bradgate Park. This artwork has been created as part of our Arts Council funded project, “The Park. The Past. The Platinum.” There will also be an opportunity to get involved in sharing memories and reflecting on the history of the park – visitors are invited to bring along photos of Bradgate in years gone by and contribute to our photo wall.

This will kick start celebrations, as a street party comes to the carriageway, featuring a venison BBQ, children’s crafts, live music, and plenty of space to picnic – and there might even be an opportunity to build your very own Bug-ingham Palace! Later in the evening, the iconic Old John tower will be illuminated as a beacon, standing proud on the skyline overlooking Leicestershire.
