"As well as improving the experience, this will reduce waiting times."
University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust says the new £3.4m maternity theatre will significantly improve patient experience.
The facility, housed in a modular building at the hospital’s Maternity Unit provides a climate-controlled, light and bright environment for births to take place.
The investment is part of an improvement plan for maternity services, including a new day case assessment unit at Leicester General Hospital.
Fran Hills, Consultant Obstetrician and joint Head of Service, said: “I’m excited about this new theatre, which will make a huge difference for patients and their families, while also providing our multi-disciplinary team with a spacious, pleasant environment to work in.
“As well as improving the experience, this will reduce waiting times by allowing us to have a separate elective surgery list for patients who are having planned caesarean births.”
