£5k raised for special baby care unit

The unit looks after premature babies born across Hinckley and Nuneaton.

A local couple have raised more than five thousand pounds to help the special care baby unit Nuneaton's George Eliot Hospital. 

Annette and Craig Strong's daughter was born at George Eliot Hospital seven years ago at 26 weeks and 4 days gestation but unfortunately due to her prematurity was transferred to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire, where she sadly passed away.

They held a charity day at the Griff & Coton Sports Club with a host of different activities taking place throughout the day such as; a sponsored chest wax for the men, pony rides, bouncy castles and a variety of stalls. There was also live entertainment throughout the day which proved to be the most successful attraction.

In total £5125.00 was raised and Annette and Craig are now hoping to make this an annual event.

The funds will be used to purchase a new monitor and various other equipment.

Cheryl Curson, Senior Sister in Special Care Baby Unit said: “We’re extremely grateful to Annette and Craig as well as the people who attended the charity day. We’re overwhelmed by the support we receive from local people and every penny will be used to purchase vital equipment that will benefit babies requiring specialist care.”
