Cyclist dies in Loughborough crash

A man in his 40s has died after a crash on Friday in Loughborough.

Officers were called shortly after 8pm (7 July) to Ling Road. A cyclist, a man in his forties, was seriously injured and despite the efforts of East Midlands Ambulance Service and the Air Ambulance, he died at the scene.

A silver Audi S3, which was also believed to have been involved in the collision, was reported to have left the scene. A vehicle matching this description was subsequently later found on fire in Frederick Street and has been recovered by police.

Following enquiries carried out a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a 40-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The 29-year-old man has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries while the two arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released under investigation.
