11 Locals travel to African Village Dream in the Gambia

A passionate project began approximately three years ago when Lee Glasgow, founder from Hinckley, sponsored a young boy named Alfa.

Last year, Alfa achieved a Master’s degree in Accountancy,an incredible acheivement in a community where many people cannot read or write.

Lee later travelled to Kerr Layen in The Gambia, where he met Samba, a local school principal. Lee asked Samba, “What is your dream?”

Samba replied, “To build a school.”
Lee responded, “Let’s see what we can do.”

That conversation sparked what is now becoming a reality. Through donations, the charity is raising funds to build classrooms, each costing around £1,000 to construct.

Life in the village is extremely simple, as very few people have any financial security. To put this into perspective, someone working in the city may earn around £40 a month, while a single bag of rice costs approximately £30.

Recently, eleven people from Hinckley and the surrounding villages travelled to The Gambia to meet Samba and see firsthand how the classrooms are progressing and they will update Fosse 107 on their return
