A hand-carved bench has been unveiled in Queen’s Park, Loughborough in memory of Marion Smith.

Marion Smith was a former Charnwood borough councillor and Loughborough in Bloom Chair.

Marion represented the Loughborough Southfields Ward between May 2011 – May 2015 as a Labour councillor.

During her time as Bloom chair, Marion helped the town achieve Gold three times in the annual East Midlands in Bloom competition as well as Gold at the national RHS Britain in Bloom Awards in 2019 before sadly passing away in June 2020.

Funds for the memorial bench were raised by the Loughborough in Bloom board and the local community with support from the Council and its open spaces partner idverde.

The bench features carvings of bees and flowers to recognise Marion’s love for nature and her involvement with the local community.

Marion’s family, including her husband Roger attended the unveiling along with friends members of the Loughborough in Bloom board, the Mayor and local councillors.
