A woman who made Loughborough her home in the 1980s has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Born in London in 1926, Sylvia Heath left school at 15 to begin work, later joining the Auxiliary Territorial Service.

She served in Jerusalem during the final stages of World War II.

After the war, Sylvia lived in Essex, Lincolnshire and Hampshire before settling in Loughborough in 1989, aged 63.

She says she’s had “a whale of a time” since making Leicestershire her home.

Her special day was marked with a wonderful celebration attended by the Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr David Northage and Mayoress, Jenny Northage. 20 of Sylvia's family members also celebrated the day with her, including her granddaughter who travelled over from Australia.

Happy 100th Birthday, Sylvia!🎊
