Members of the planning committee tonight voted 12 to 5 in favour of granting permission for Horiba MIRA to construct a test track for driverless vehicles.
Councillors had previously voted to defer a decision on whether to allow Horiba MIRA to build a test track for driverless vehicles to be built on land where the Battle of Bosworth is thought to have taken place.
In reaching the decision tonight, 25th Sept, the local planning authority said they "had weighed the harm to the designated battlefield against the significant economic benefits that the scheme would deliver to the local and national economy."
Horiba MIRA says the plans will create thousands of new jobs but local historians say the Battlefield land is precious and should remain undeveloped.
