Work has begun on the site off the A47 and is due to be completed early next year
Managing director of G. Seller in Hinckley, Joseph Barsby, has said the building of a crematorium in Hinckley is long overdue.
"Having one locally is important an incredibly important resource for the community.
"There aren't enough crematoriums close to Hinckley" he added.
"We're a big enough community to warrant our own...the Nuneaton one can be expensive and covers two districts so it gets busy.
Council officials have voiced concerns that other crematoria have become too crowded as they cover too large an area.
According to a spokesperson for the Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, "The £5M construction comprises a ceremonial hall suitable for multi faith services, a crematory hall to hold the crematorium plant and equipment and administrative offices.
"External works will include memorial gardens, covered walkways, new roads and car parks. A new access road to the site will also be formed from the A47."
It's hoped the new build will allow for families to have more time to say goodbye to their loved ones.
"You only get one chance at a funeral so we have to get it right" Barsby said.
The project had been due for completion in February this year before being hit with delays. It's now expected to be finished in early 2022.
