Police in Loughborough closed Epinal Way in Loughborough this evening after a suspicious device was discovered at a fire station compound.
Leicestershire Police received a call at 6.41pm reporting that a device had been found at a Leicestershire Fire and Rescue station.
Homes at the back of the station in Garendon Road were evacuated and explosives experts were called to the scene.
Epinal Way was closed in both directions until around 9pm as emergency services dealt with the incident.
Police said: "We would like to thank the local community and any motorists who may be caught up in the diversions for their patience and understanding."
Police said the evacuations and the road closure were necessary given the nature of the initial report.
