There is an appeal for volunteers.

Young runners will soon be able to take part in junior parkrun in Coalville.

Junior parkrun is a series of 2k events run for children aged 4-14 years and will take place at Coalville Park, every Sunday at 9am.

The parkrun will be solely run by volunteers and is currently in the process of assembling a core team.

An initial meeting is being held on Wednesday 10 September at Stenson House, 6pm – 7pm where anyone who is interested can see how they can participate and positively impact the local community.

To attend the upcoming meeting, please register your interest by emailing Katie Hayes at katie.hayes@nwleicestershire.gov.uk. No prior volunteering experience is required - full training and guidance will be provided by parkrun to ensure all volunteers feel confident and supported.

Volunteers can choose to do different roles such as:

  • Helping prepare the course and ensure everything is ready for the participants
  • Marshalling and providing support and encouragement to the runners along the course
  • Assisting with recording times and scanning barcodes as the participants finish
  • ‘Tail walking’ to ensure no one is left behind and everyone finishes safely.

Councillor Michael Wyatt, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Climate Change at NWLDC, said: “The junior parkrun coming to Coalville is a fantastic opportunity for the local community to engage in a healthy, fun, and inclusive activity designed specifically for younger participants.

“Whether you have a passion for running, enjoy working with children, or are simply looking to contribute positively to your community, we would love to have you on board.

“Join us in making junior parkrun a highlight of Coalville's community activities. Together, we can inspire a new generation to embrace the joys of running and outdoor fun.”
