All 13 household waste recycling sites across Leicestershire now have ReHome Zones, allowing residents to give unwanted items in good condition a second life instead of sending them for disposal.
Residents across Leicestershire are being encouraged to donate unwanted household items for reuse, with ReHome Zones now available at all 13 recycling and household waste sites across the county.
The scheme allows residents to bring items they no longer need, provided they are in good condition and suitable for someone else to use.
Items particularly welcomed include household and garden furniture, home office equipment, non-electric bicycles and scooters, and DIY and garden tools, including petrol-powered lawnmowers.
Soft furnishings must have a compliant fire safety label attached. Items must be clean, unmodified and in good condition, requiring no more than light cleaning. Minor cosmetic damage or rust may be acceptable, but items must not have damage that affects their use or appearance.
Residents should take suitable items to the designated ReHome Zone area when visiting a site. Staff may also identify and set aside items that are suitable for reuse.
Electrical equipment, gas bottles, batteries, fluorescent tubes and light bulbs cannot be accepted for reuse. Information about how to dispose of these items is available on the county council's website.
Liquid paint can only be taken to the Whetstone recycling site, and residents must have a valid paint permit, even if the paint is suitable for reuse.
Residents are reminded that items cannot be taken away from the sites, including from the ReHome Zones.
You can find your nearest recycling and household waste site and check disposal guidance on the Leicestershire County Council website.
