Let Charnwood Council know about your World War One events

Charnwood Borough Council will be supporting a series of events on Sunday November 11 to mark 100 years since the end of World War One.

In addition to the annual remembrance parade in Loughborough, a Charnwood Heritage Plaque will be unveiled in Loughborough Market Place as a lasting reminder of the soldiers who gathered there before going to war.

Other events in the town centre include a live showcase event supported by a big screen in the Market Place, a tea dance and exhibition at  Loughborough Town Hall, Century of Stories at Charnwood Museum and a procession of a life size model of Songster Charnwood’s very own warhorse which will be covered in poppies handmade by local school children.

There will also be a lighting of a beacon in Queen’s Park at 7pm as part of a nationwide beacon lighting scheme.

The Council is also currently part way through a £280,000 conservation project on the Carillon Tower in Queen’s Park in Loughborough which will be completed in time for November 11.
