The plan is to demolish the Victorian Cottage Hospital for a new £10.5million facility.
Next week, Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council will vote on an NHS planning application for a new Day Case Unit in Hinckley.
The proposal is to build the Day Case Unit on the existing Hinckley and District Hospital site, which means demolishing the Victorian cottage hospital.
The plan to demolish the current building is controversial, as some people do not want the building to be destroyed and instead want it integrated into a new facility.
In a letter to the Health Secretary, Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council Leader Cllr Stuart Bray reiterated that he welcomes improved NHS facilities in Hinckley; however, he also expressed concerns about demolishing the Victorian cottage facade.
However, Dr Luke Evans, Member of Parliament for Hinckley and Bosworth, said, “The NHS has been clear: there is no scope clinically or financially to use the old Cottage Hospital as it stands for the Day Case Unit."
We interviewed Dr Luke Evans MP and Cllr. Stuart Bray.
