Local MP says 'work on our £10m Day Case Unit can finally begin'

The unit will mean people can undergo small surgeries and procedures in Hinckley.

The MP for Hinckley and Bosworth has confirmed that work on the  £10m Day Case Unit can begin.

The planning application for the site was given the green light by borough councillors on Tuesday evening (15/07) however, this was subject to the condition that the Cottage Hospital was not going to become a listed building.

Dr Luke Evans MP for Hinckley and Bosworth, said: "This morning I have received confirmation that the decision *not to list* the Cottage Hospital has been *upheld* – meaning work on our £10m Day Case Unit can finally begin!

"In just a few short weeks, we have seen what a difference the £24m Community Diagnostic Centre has made to people across our area, who can now get their tests, scans and checks right here in Hinckley. 

"The Day Case Unit is the second phase of improvements to local healthcare, and will mean people can undergo small surgeries and procedures in our town."

The new NHS building will be built on the land where the existing Victorian Cottage Hospital is.

This decision has been controversial, as some do not want the old building to be demolished.
