Loughborough business owner pleads guilty to fly-tipping

The fly-tipped waste was reported outside flats on Devonshire Lane in October 2024.

A business owner in Loughborough has been sentenced to unpaid community work following a fly-tipping offence in the town.

Mohammed Ahmed Ismail, owner of Euro Market on Ward’s End in Loughborough, pleaded guilty to fly-tipping at Leicester Magistrates’ Court following a prosecution by Charnwood Borough Council. 

The court heard that the fly-tipped waste was reported outside flats on Devonshire Lane in October 2024.

Magistrates sentenced him to 100 hours of unpaid work as part of a 12-month community order and ordered him to pay £584.14 in court costs plus a £114 victim surcharge.

Mr Ismail confirmed that the waste was collected following the report and disposed of. He also said that his business will not commit a fly-tipping offence again in future and that staff had been briefed on the correct way to dispose of waste.

Cllr Beverley Gray, the Council’s lead member for climate action and net zero, said: “We take fly-tipping extremely seriously and will continue to take action against those who think it is acceptable to pollute our public spaces with their waste.

“We want Charnwood to be a clean, green borough, and I hope this case sends a clear message that we expect full cooperation when we are working to protect our communities and the local environment.”
