A farmer went to the scene to assist emergency services.
The M69 has been re-opened after the emergency services removed a cow from the carriageway.
The road was shut in both directions from Junction 21.
National Highways East Midlands said that a farmer had to assist emergency services in returning the cow to a nearby field.
