At 7.07 pm, on Thursday, 27 March this year, police received a report that a man, armed with a knife, had approached another man in the street in Ashby Square.
Officers were immediately dispatched to the area and found a man injured in the street in Market Place.
He had sustained a single stab wound to his back and was taken hospital by ambulance for emergency treatment.
Detective Constable Jamie Anderson was the investigating officer. He said: “The victim sustained a very serious injury and although he is very lucky to have not lost his life, the events of that evening very much remain with him as he still struggles with his mobility.
“Elyas carried out a violent attack on the victim and gave no regard to people around at the time and about the impact on anyone who may have witnessed the assault may have on them.
“He is a dangerous individual, and I am relieved that he has pleaded guilty to his crime leaving him with a considerable amount of time behind bars.”
