The council installed the cameras on Wednesday (9th June).
There are now 28 high definition cameras in the town centre.
According to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, their aim is to to deter crime; provide assistance to the emergency services and help secure a safer environment for the people who live, work, visit and trade in the areas covered.
While many of the comments under the council's Facebook were supportive, a number of residents questioned the move.
One person wrote, "Is this level of surveillance really progress and / or really necessary? I feel it's rather sad that providing them is a priority spend for Council Tax."
Another pointed out the new cameras look reminiscent of something out of Star Wars.
