Police say the death of a 74-year-old man from Nuneaton, in 2023, is now being treated as murder.
Terry lived on Greenmoor Road in Nuneaton.
On 5th May 2023, he was attacked while walking between his home and the Nationwide Bank in Nuneaton town centre, the exact location isn’t known.
Terry went into hospital, but was then released to a care home, and sadly died seven months later in December 2023.
Police said they believed Terry's death as linked to his injuries.
Almost three years after his death, on 12th January 2026, a 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and he has been bailed while enquiries continue.
Detective Inspector Gareth Unett from the Major Investigation Unit said: "As you can imagine we’ve already spoken to a number of people, but we’re also appealing to anyone else that spoke to Terry in 2023 where he may have talked to them about what had happened as part of the attack. We’re also asking if anyone else has information as to who was responsible for the assault on Terry as it may be the offender has spoken about it to others."
“Our thoughts remain with Terry’s family as we seek to obtain them answers and justice for Terry’s death.”
Terry's family said: "Terry grew up on Greenmoor Road with his parents and siblings, and lived his whole life in the same house, as an adult with his mum Kathleen known as Kitty and in later life independently on his own with his sister June visiting him.
"Neighbours will know Terry as he often enjoyed walking up and down Greenmoor Road, and when he was younger was an active runner."
"My uncle was quiet and shy and wouldn’t hurt anyone. He preferred to keep himself to himself. He had the most innocent eyes and smile. To think someone has used his vulnerability against him and hurt him, is inconceivable to imagine. It broke his heart to leave his home, and it broke our heart when he lost his life due to another’s actions."
