Residents told to shut windows due to heavy smoke in South Wigston

The smoke can be seen in nearby towns and villages.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service are at the scene of a large fire on Saffron Lane in South Wigston.

Due to the heavy smoke people are being asked to shut their windows and doors.

There are road closures in place on Saffron Road opposite Marstown Avenue (both directions) and Tigers Way.

The smoke can be seen in nearby towns and villages.

The Fire and Rescue Service received a call about an industrial/commercial fire at 9:43 this morning.

There are appliances in attendance from Wigston, Southern, Central, Western, Eastern, Billesdon, Birstall, Lutterworth, Coalville, Market Bosworth, and Market Harborough Stations.

11 pumps are currently in attendance (including Nottinghamshire FRS), alongside 2 ALP (Aerial Ladder Platform) and a water carrier.
