An ambulance has overturned in Hinckley as it was responding to a 999 call. The driver has been taken to hospital. Police are investigating.
The A47 Normandy Way in Hinckley is currently closed following a road traffic accident in which an ambulance overturned.
The accident has taken place at the crossroads where the A47 (Northern Perimeter Rd) meets Ashby Road. The Air Ambulance attended the scene.
In a statement East Midlands Ambulance Service said: ""An ambulance responding to a 999 call was involved in a road traffic collision at 2.55pm on 27 October on the A47 near Hinckley. Two paramedics in ambulance cars, two crewed ambulances, the air ambulance and a doctor in a car were sent to the scene together with Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and Leicestershire Police. The driver of the ambulance has been taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary for treatment, and another patient has been taken to George Eliot Hospital. Both of them are being conveyed by land ambulance."
"The incident will be investigated by the police and it is therefore inappropriate to make any further comment at this time."
Leicestershire Police is advising drivers to take an alternative route as the road is likely to remain closed for some time.
