The boundaries for Charnwood's council wards are set to change

The boundaries of all but two of the existing wards will change.

The Local Government Boundary Commission, which is the independent body that draws the ward boundaries, has reviewed Charnwood to make sure councillors represent about the same number of electors, and that the ward arrangements work effectively.

The final recommendations say that residents should be represented by 52 councillors which is the same as the current arrangement.

However, there will be changes to most of the current ward boundaries.

It has been recommended that there is 24 wards; five single-councillor wards, ten two-councillor wards, and nine three-councillor wards.

This is four fewer wards than there are now and the boundaries of all but two of the existing wards will change.

150 submissions from local residents and organisations helped decide the new wards. 

Some of the changes to the wards include:

• Making a three-councillor ward for the whole of Thurmaston village’s established built-up area.
• Providing a single councillor for Loughborough Nanpantan and Loughborough Woodthorpe wards
• Three-councillor wards for Dishley, Hathern & Thorpe Acre, Loughborough Ashby and Loughborough Outwoods & Shelthorpe.

Parliament now needs to agree to the changes and they will then apply for the 2023 council elections.
