A skimming device is a piece of technology that can be disguised to look like part of an ATM.

The ATMs at Asda on Barwell Lane in Hinckley were seen with police tape over them yesterday.

Just before 5 pm yesterday (Wednesday 4 June), a report was received by the police that a skimming device had been placed on the machine.

Leicestershire Police said: "Two men aged 55 and 45 were subsequently arrested on suspicion of theft, including theft by finding.

"They remain in custody."

Hinckley Police have released advice about how to keep yourself safe from ATM skimming
1 - Check for tampered card readers, residue or tape can be a giveaway
2 - Be on the lookout for mini cameras ready to capture your PIN being put in
3 - Your card disappearing; this is called a 'Lebanese loop'. A device attached to the ATM keeps your card, not the ATM itself. Ring your bank and cancel your card immediately if it is not returned
4 - Be aware of fake keypads, which will be placed on top of the originals, so the ATM will still work, but also the device records the PIN input
5 - Shoulder surfers, be aware of anyone being too close, or looking over your shoulder
