LLoyds Banking Group has announced that two Leicestershire branches will close in the latest round of cutbacks to high street banking.
The UK's biggest banking group has announced that both Hinckley and Coalville will close in June.
The Hinckley branch is in The Borough and current sits next to the McDonalds restaurant that closed down decades ago and has never been reopened.
Coaville's branch is on Belvoir Road.
A total of 95 branches - comprising 53 Lloyds, 31 Halifax and 11 Bank of Scotland sites - will shut between May this year and March 2027 under the latest closure plans, parent company Lloyds Banking Group has announced.
It's in addition to another round of closures, which will see 49 sites close down by October. This followed 136 closures announced around a year ago.
After all these sites are shut, Lloyds, the UK's biggest mortgage provider, will have 610 branches remaining.
The number of impacted staff has not been announced, but all those who work at the affected branches will be offered a role at another site or in another part of the business.
High street branches are closing down as customers increasingly turn to online banking.
A Lloyds spokesperson told Fosse 107: “Customers want the freedom to bank in the way that works for them and we offer more choice and ways to manage money than ever before. In addition to our app, customers can visit the local Post Office or Banking Hub in Hinckley once it is up and running. Customers can also use any branch of Lloyds or Halifax and deposit cash at PayPoint locations. We're giving our customers the flexibility to bank wherever and whenever they need us.”
Council Leader, Cllr Stuart Bray said: “I am very disappointed to learn of the announcement that Lloyds Bank will be closing its Hinckley branch on 10 June 2026. This is yet another in a long line of branch closures nationally, largely driven by the move towards digital banking.
While many people now bank online, this decision is another blow to our high street and to those residents who either do not wish to use online banking or simply cannot — particularly those without access to Wi Fi, a smartphone or the confidence to manage their finances digitally.
However, we have advised by LINK (the body that carries out assessments when there is a change to the level of cash access in a community) that a new Banking Hub, which will be delivered by Cash Access UK, a not-for-profit company funded by the major high street banks is coming to Hinckley. The banking hub will open before Lloyds closes meaning there will be no break in service for residents or businesses, which is great news. As soon as we receive all the details, we will share them with everyone. "
