The Christmas Lights switch-on event, which is organised by Charnwood Borough Council, will include a full day of festive fun with the lights being switched on in the evening.

The Market Place will host a wide range of stalls, food and drink stands and fairground rides from 11am and then from 1pm, a host of talented performers will be appearing on the main stage to entertain the crowds.

There will also be a giant screen above the stage to make sure everyone has a good view.

The lights will be switched on at 5pm by the winner of the Council’s Light Up Loughborough competition. The competition was run to find a deserving youngster to flick the big switch on this year’s lights.

Cllr Jenny Bokor, lead member for Loughborough said: “The Christmas lights switch-on is always a fantastic event where families and friends in Loughborough attend to start the countdown to Christmas.

“This year is extra special as we have been on the look out for a special young resident to switch-on the lights in a moment that they will never forget.

“I look forward to seeing the Market Place busy and everyone enjoying the entertainment which will be on offer throughout the day.”

The Sock Gallery in Loughborough Town Hall will be hosting a Christmas Arts & Crafts Fair from 11am-5pm on the day of the Christmas lights switch-on.
